David's Birthday Surprise

A weekend trip to New Orleans! I don't have a clue how I kept it a secret until his birthday! I almost spilled the beans so many times in the months leading up to the big day. New Orleans is somewhere we both have wanted to visit, so I thought... why not... with 2 babies on the way, we won't have many more opportunities to spend a weekend away. Mama and Daddy graciously offered to keep our little man for us and kept him perfectly in his routine... although they say it will take a while to recover from their busy weekend with him (lol)... aka they missed their afternoon naps! We had a blast, though. We were surprised at how different life is there. People are.. well, a little pushy... and can be downright rude if you don't throw money at them on the sidewalk... David and I had obscenities shouted at us halfway down a sidewalk on Saturday night all because we didn't stop to have our shoes shined (I thought David was going to lose it!)! And, if you don't go to drink excessively.. you are definitely in the minority. It is a party city. We got our eyes full! We ate good, though. Seafood every night! I couldn't help but think how that might change with this oil disaster in the gulf. We also WALKED!!!!!!!!!! Parking in the city is almost non-existent, so once you park at your hotel.. you WALK (we paid $70 for parking for 2 days at our hotel). And, boy was it HOT!! There was several times that I thought I might possibly just burst into flames right there on the sidewalk! lol It is not a city that I am dying to get back to, but it was fun... and we enjoyed our time together. David had a memorable 40th birthday... that's what matters!

They're IDENTICAL!

We had our first appointment with our Perinatologist at Northside today. The twins both look perfect in every way!! They had strong heartbeats and measured great. I am 13 weeks 1 day today..... Baby A measured 13 weeks 5 days and Baby B measured 13 weeks 4 days. Dr. Matsumoto is almost certain that they are identical. He said that I have 2 of the indicators (something to do with the uterine wall and the membrane that separates them is less than 2mm). How will we ever tell them apart?!? :o) We will go back in 3 weeks for another ultrasound to check measurements and hopefully gender!!

New Ride

Well, it's official... I'm a minivan mom! hehe Those of you who know me, know that I have never had any desire to own a minivan... never had anything against them, just never wanted one. I liked my Jeep just fine... well, a Jeep won't hold 3 carseats! Soooo, we sold David's truck (poor David) and have been searching for our new ride. We chose this Honda Odyssey last Saturday, and I must say, I am LOVING it! The extra room, the power sliding doors (L still giggles everytime they open), the dual air controls (this could quite possibly save our marriage.. lol), the backup camera, dvd player.... it is like a home on wheels! We now refer to it as the Awesome Mo-bil!

Bye Bye, First Trimester!

Yay! I know that we are nowhere near out of the woods, but I am so relieved to have that risky first trimester over!!! All still looks good with my blood pressure (still taking meds 4 times a day) and my sugar (I think the shots sometimes work too well... I am actually having to manage some lows with this pregnancy). I will see Dr. Miller again on Friday and he has become more uncomfortable at this point adjusting my insulin levels, so we will start seeing our Perinatologist at Northside next Wednesday. We considered staying closer to home this time and using the Perinat in Columbus, but we had such a good experience with Dr. Matsumoto last time... we decided we would just make the travel work somehow. Dr. Miller expressed his concerns that a premature delivery is probably eminent and we would need to be delivered at Northside as well, with Egleston being just across the street from Northside... makes me nervous, but God is in control. He will take care of us no matter where we end up!

Helping Mommy

Lucas thinks it is so much fun to "help" me put away the groceries... I wish I shared his enthusiasm. He thinks that everything, I mean everything goes in the refrigerator.. even coffee filters and graham crackers. :o)

Mother's Day

I had a wonderful day on Sunday! Take a look at my gifts from my little man! He made the flowerpot (footprint on one side, handprint on the other) with Paige at church. A 1 year old and paint... she is brave! It is such a gift.. I will treasure it for a lifetime. He also made a cute little handprint on the sweetest poem at daycare. Such keepsakes.. David was good to me, too! He cooked breakfast and supper and gave me a new novel that I can't wait to get into!

Look At Me!

Lucas is insistant on feeding himself these days. According to him, if HE can't get it into his mouth, then it just isn't worth eating!

Doing Much Better

I am happy to report that I am feeling so, so much better! I've had no problems since Wednesday afternoon. I returned to work on Thursday and am trying to take it as easy as possible, but my teacher friends know that is almost impossible during the month of May! I am really trying not to overdo though, really! We get our next peek at these little ones on this coming Wednesday.. hopefully we'll get some good pictures to post!

Takin' It Easy

We had a big scare Monday night/ Tuesday morning with some bleeding. I have passed the point of implantation in this pregnancy, so we knew something wasn't right. I talked to Lisa (Dr. Miller's beyond WONDERFUL nurse) Tuesday morning. She told me I was on complete bedrest until Dr. Miller could see me yesterday afternoon (on his day off). We were afraid going in of what we might find... or not find. Dr. Miller was worried, too. He prepared us before the examination of the possible outcomes. The only way to be certain was an ultrasound. Immediately we could see that both babies were still there. Baby A was really easy to see.. not shy at all. He/she (my intuition says girl) showed us it's little beating heart right away and even danced around for us.. even moving it's arms as if he/she was telling us "hey Mama and Daddy!" Baby B was harder to see. Dr. Miller had to do some maneuvering to get a good view of him/ her (I think this one is a boy), but finally there it was.. the second heartbeat! Hallelujah!!! Then, he/she started moving, too.... more like he was trying to get away from the ultrasound though... not a camera baby! lol Relief can't describe how I felt. I really felt like I would have known if I had completely miscarried; I was really more afraid that there would be an abnormal heartbeat or something just wouldn't "look" right, but to see both of them with good heartbeats and moving around... whew!

I am still on complete bedrest until all of the bleeding stops (it is getting better), but when it does stop.. I am free to rejoin my normal activities (yay!). I have heard from several friends that they too have had threatened miscarriages and went on to have healthy pregnancies and babies (that brings some relief to me too). The next two weeks remain crucial... this first trimester is such a touchy time. Just help me lift these little ones up in prayer. I want so badly to be able to do everything right and protect them, but I am constantly reminded.. God is the one in control!

Pony Ride

Lucas had his first pony ride yesterday at the Cotton Pickin' Fair thanks to his Nana. He laughed and made car noises the whole time he was riding. :o) Daddy got in some good exercise, too!
